      • Lab experiments on the innovative rapid thick strip casting process

        Rapid thick strip casting (RTSC) by Anton Hulek,Inventmetall(R),is an innovative concept for the production of hot stops with a final as-cast thickness of about 25 mm before rolling.The innovation of the mechanism consists in a vertical mould performing a caterpillar motion.This moving mould has an unconventional parallelogram-shaped cross-section.The conventional rectangular shape is formed in the shaping machine,which is placed straight below the mould.Further elements of the technology are state-of-the-art.For the investigation of this new casting system theoretical calculations were complemented with practical experiments.The investigation focused mainly on two key aspects:the characteristics of the mould and the shaping process.For the practical analysis a static mould with three pairs of elements in laboratory scale was developed and commissioned by the Dept.of Ferrous Metallurgy @RWTH Aachen University.The shaping experiments were carried out in model scale with two different materials and in variable boundary conditions.The results of these experiments delivered important mechanical as well as thermal informations about the casting system....

      • Analyzing the Simple Ranking and Selection Process for Constrained Evolutionary Optimization

        Many optimization problems that involve practical applications have functional constraints, and some of these constraints are active, meaning that they prevent any solution from improving the objective function value to the one that is better than any solution lying beyond the constraint limits. Therefore, the optimal solution usually lies on the boundary of the feasible region. In order to converge faster when solving such problems, a new ranking and selection scheme is introduced which exploits this feature of constrained problems. In conjunction with selection, a new crossover method is also presented based on three parents. When comparing the results of this new algorithm with six other evolutionary based methods, using 12 benchmark problems from the literature, it shows very encouraging performance. T-tests have been applied in this research to show if there is any statistically significance differences between the algorithms. A study has also been carried out in order to show the effect of each component of the proposed algorithm....

        In order to precisely describe the dendrite evolution during solidification process, especially in microscale, a continuous method is presented to deal with the discontinuous physical properties beside the solid/liquid interface.       • PHYSICAL SIMULATION OF CONTINUOUS ROLL CASTING PROCESS

        A series of simulating experimental studies on the rheological behavior and its influential factors of aluminum alloy in continuous roll-casting process have been explored in this paper with a Gleeble-1500 Thermal-Mechanical Simulation Tester and a set of special clamp system. Relevant rheological rules in the process of coupling transient solidification and continuous deformation of roll-casting conditions are obtained. Experimental results indicate that four different characteristic stages exist in the whole rheological process, and relative constitutive models suitable for the given conditions of continuous roll casting process have been established through multivariable linear regression analysis of the experimental data....

      • Calculation of Solidification Process of Continuous Cast Bar

        In this paper, it presents the results of calculation of solidification process of copper continuous cast bar by cross section size 120 mm×70 mm with application of ProCast 2010 software. The estimation of mould design effect on solidification process of continuos copper cast bar is completed at various speeds of casting. Profiles of liquid metal cavities and temperature allocations in the cast bar at various casting speeds are defined. The analysis of received liquid metal cavity profiles shows that a new mold construction allows significantly decrease of the length of the liquid metal cavity during continuous copper casting at HAZELETT? casting machine and the increase of maximum casting speed from 10 to 11 m/min. Adequacy of the results of copper continuous cast bar solidification process calculation is confirmed by the experimental data....

      • 連續過程的多目標優化

        在模塊環境(Aspen Plus)下,建立了基于多目標遺傳算法NSGA-Ⅱ求解多目標優化問題的系統結構,并對含循環物流的連續過程廢料最小化問題進行求解.在求解過程中遺傳算法需要反復調用流程模擬,而流程中循環物流的迭代收斂使優化計算效率較低.為減少流程迭代次數本文提出2個加速策略:一是變收斂精度策略,在優化計算初始階段,使流程在較低精度下收斂,快速淘汰劣點,隨著優化的進行,將流程收斂精度逐步提高,得到高質量的非劣解;二是循環流初值策略,利用已有的計算值,回歸決策變量與循環流變量的對應關系,改善循環流初值.實例結果表明,加速策略減少了一半左右的流程迭代次數,效率提高50%,本文提出的求解多目標問題的方法能方便地得到問題的Pareto最優解集,可應用于一般連續化工過程的多目標優化....

      • Progress in the application of cold gas dynamic spraying to repairing continuous casting molds

        A new continuous casting mold repairing method-cold gas dynamic spraying(CGDS)is introduced.The study investigates the advantages of the CGDS process regarding repairing operation,such as convenient,in-situ repairation,little heat delivery,microstructural and dimensional stability and other special applications.Microstructure and mechanical properties of the copper alloy coating,nickel coating,ceramic composite coating,and their interface to the substrates,which are usually used in repairing operation have been researched by means of optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and micro-hardness tests.Experimental results have demonstrated the relative density of the copper alloy coating is as high as 98.7%,and that no obvious diflference Can be observed between the CrZrCu substrate and the Cu alloy coating in terms of microstmctures;thus the interface is quite difficult to be identified.The bonding strength and micro-hardness of the Cu alloy coating reach up to 37 MPa and 310 HV0. 2,respectively.The interface between the copper alloy coating and the nickel coating is either zigzag or wave shaped,and the cohesion is relatively good.As-sprayed nickel coating is dominated by severely deformed particles,and the relative density is up to 98.5%.Complete recrystallization occurred after annealing at 900℃ for one hour,while its micro-hardness remains as high as 124.1HV0.2. All these results have indicated that CGDS is a promising technology for repairing the continuous casting mold and that its future development is prosperous as well....

      • Biomass Catalytic Pyrolysis with Ni Based Catalyst to Produce Hydrogen Rich Gas

        Hydrogen rich gas was produced using rice husk as biomass material on the continuous biomass pyrolysis apparatus which consisted of continuous pyrolysis reactor and secondary catalytic cracking reactor. Ni based catalysts of different Ni/Al mass ratio and calcined temperature were prepared by impregnating method. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD),scan electron microscope (SEM) and FT-IR Spectrometer (FT-IR). Ni based catalyst showed good selectivity for H2 production from biomass. Catalysts prepared under different conditions had little influence on the yields of three states products when used at the same cracking temperature. Ni/Al mass ratio played an important role in products selectivity. However, the content of NiO increased further when Ni/Al mass ratio values reached 0.7 : 10, and the yield of H2 slightly increased. Hydrogen yield was greatly impacted by calcined temperature. Catalyst calcined at 550"C performed best. When the catalyst was calcined at high temperature, NiO in the catalyst transformed into NiAl2O4, and the acid site also changed, which caused the deactivation of the catalyst. The hydrogen yield increased with the cracking temperature. The highest stable yield of hydrogen was about 30% without increasing with the cracking temperature....

      • Dynamic Water Modeling and Application of Billet Continuous Casting

        The continuous casting process is used for solidifying molten steel into semi-finished steel. The technology of secondary cooling is extremely important for output of the casting machine and billet quality. A dynamic water model was introduced, including solidification model in the secondary cooling, feedforward control strategy based on continuous temperature measurement in tundish, and feedback control strategy based on surface temperature measurement. The mathematical model of solidification process was developed according to the principle of solidification, and the solidification model was validated by measuring billet shell thickness through shooting nail and sulfur print. Primary water distribution was calculated by the solidification model according to procedure parameters, and it was adjusted by the other two control strategies online. The model was applied on some caster and billet quality was obviously improved, indicating that the dynamic water model is better than conventional ones....
